GSK to bid for Pfizer's OTC unit?
The hot gossip going around the Pharm today is the $15 billion GSK bid for Pfizer's consumer healthcare business — that is, their entire line of non-prescription products(!). This is not the first time Pfizer's consumer products line has has been courted. Reckitt placed a similar bid back in February for $14 billion. J&J and Reckitt will likely revise and finalize any final bids they may have before the Tuesday deadline.
Other than the huge amounts of money being bandied about, who owns the rights to Rogaine, Listerine, Sudafed, and other household brands just doesn't seem terribly interesting. But hey. Someone's probably going to make a fridgeful of money, so I guess that makes it newsworthy…
