I think that everyone really should be vaccinated. Its always great to think "well I'll never get that or if I do it won't be bad" but in reality thats not a good strategy. So many cases can be prevented just by getting vaccinated, then you don't have to deal with getting the disease. Great point for this is rubella which can cause all sorts of nasty birth defects, mostly blindness, in pregnant women. I really reccomend that anyone out there that has questions of vaccines read a book by Dr. Paul Offit.

Wow. Unbelievable. I was searching for information to help me make a more informed decision on vaccinaing my child and I came across this link. This person Richard Sliva looses all credibility when he lost control of his temper in his last comment. An educated person with a leg to stand on would refrain from such language and attitude. It would seem that he is scared of any debate or else he would just respond with a educated response. This comment of his doesn't help anyone.

Ok, here's a thought. If many of these diseases were SOOOO bad, why do they not even get diagnosed? I will tell you why-because they arn't that bad. My whole family has had whooping cough and my then 4 year old has had mumps. In both cases we were misdiagnosed and later correctly diagnosed when I asked for titers. Thats because we were not that bad. I am lucky in that my kids pediatrician is very honest when it comes to the vaccine preventable diseases. She doesnt try to push vaccines on me and I love her for that. In fact, she has gone over each disease with me and between her and reading the info on the CDC website, we have decided not to vaccinate at all. I might have my kids get TD later and possibly polio if we are leaving the country, but thats it.
I would also like to point out that niether myself, nor most of my friends who choose to not vaccinate/partially vaccinate are NOT religious and that religion has nothing to do with our decisions. Do I believe in the autism link? I dont know, it may or may not be there. Again, that has nothing to do with why I chose not to vaccinate. My decision was based on the information from the CDC and later, my ped.
You speak of how the poor kids dont have a choice in the matter. Hmmm....are you against infant circumcision as well then? Because that sure as heck isnt the baby's choice, its the parents and a heck of a lot more damage can come from that choice than from getting the measles.
